Why You Should Drink Lemon Water in the Morning

Looking for a refreshing and healthy way to start off your day? Try drinking a glass of water with freshly squeezed lemon juice in it.

Drinking water that has freshly squeezed lemon juice (pre-squeezed lemon juice from the store) added to it just before you drink it has several health benefits that make it worth the effort to put this routine into your to daily schedule.

  1. Water with freshly squeezed lemon acts as a liver aid, stimulating the production of bile and hydrochloric acid, which are necessary for proper digestion of important fats and proteins. Stomach acid (HCL) tends to decline as we get older, as well as enzyme production. The liver works hard at night to detoxify and flush out toxins. Lemon helps stimulate the liver and encourage flushing those toxins.

  2. Lemons have antioxidant and phytonutrient properties and are a source of vitamin C and potassium, as well as other electrolytes.

  3. It can increase your metabolic rate, while supporting digestion and weight loss.

  4. It has been shown to decrease joint pain.

  5. Although lemons have acidic properties in their natural state, once they’re digested, they have an alkaline affect in the body.

  6. Lemon water is low in calories, carbs and sugar, so there’s no reason not to enjoy this drink in the morning!

To make lemon water, simply squeeze one whole lemon into a glass of warm water in the morning. I add stevia to make it taste like lemonade. It’s delicious! Remember to drink it right away to preserve the enzymes before they dissipate by sitting too long.
